The First One Crossing The River

This documentary short film will unfold the many bitter truths and hardships faced by Dr. Suaad Genem-George in her unrelenting advocacy for human rights. It is a story that instills hope in moments of darkness and an undying faith in oneself. It is a story that asks us to follow our dreams, question the system that treats us unfairly and rise against all odds of life. It is a story of valor, vigor and victory.

The last 25 years of Suaad’s advocacy work in Exeter, Southwest England, has resulted in the UK’s biggest annual celebration of culture and diversity - the Exeter Respect Festival - bringing together diverse communities to learn and to celebrate the fact that we are ‘all different and all equal’.

To be shot in the town of San Potito Sannitico, Italy, exactly a hundred years after the film that kickstarted a new era for cinema „The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari“ (1920). Mixing both live action and animated segments, The Shadow of Sunrise is a new take on an old genre and on film production itself.

Another clip that I worked on is ‚Spaß beim Fahrradfahren‘. This was also the first time I was in front of the camera as a host. For this film I researched trends regarding biking, requested the products and prepared the shooting including the organization of the location. On set I did the planning for when to film which part of each product. After that I screened the material, developed the editing concept and directed the editing.

The reportage ‘Wie wird das Osterei bunt’ revolved around the production of colored eggs during the Easter season. For this clip I did research on the dye factory and wrote a treatment. During the filming I did the directing together with the editor-in-chief and interviewed the protagonist. Also for this item I screened the material, prepared an editing concept and directed the editing.

During my internship at a TV production company I was the author of various items for a TV science magazine broadcasted on German TV. One of it was this film about home gadgets. For this I did research on new products, was in contact with the production companies and prepared the filming. I wrote the treatment and co-directed the filming. After that I was screening the material and developed an editing concept. During the editing with a professional editor I did the directing.

In Het Kille Ochtendlicht

In order to promote the book ‚In het kille ochtendlicht‘ by Anthonie Holslag I created a book trailer within a group of six students. This trailer represents one story of this book revolving around fear and what comes after fear. This book is also related to a good cause since all the royalties go to the war trauma foundation. During that project I was the director, director of photography and I operated the camera. I translated the script into pictures and developed the storyboard.

Anthonie Holslag: „Een boektrailer van mijn boek 'In het kille ochtendlicht' gemaakt door studenten uit Stenden. Alle opbrengsten gaan naar WarTrauma Foundation. Het is boek is zowel te koop in de boekhandel als bij de auteur op FB of via zijn website.“
